The Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared full commitment to holding the party’s elective National Convention on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The governors, who met in Gusau, Zamfara State, on Saturday, made their stance clear despite recent remarks by Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, who dismissed the decision of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and claimed ignorance of the convention.
Wike had vowed that there would be no peace in the PDP unless the South-South congress conducted by his allies — which produced Dan Orbih but was rejected by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) — was recognised.
But the governors, in a communiqué read by Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, reaffirmed loyalty to the Ambassador Umar Damagum-led leadership and the resolutions of the July 2025 NEC meeting.
“The Forum reaffirms its full commitment to the resolutions of the 101st NEC meeting of July 2025 regarding the November 15 National Convention. It urges members to resist all attempts to derail the convention by anti-party forces,” the statement read.
The governors also condemned what they called “intimidation and anti-democratic actions” of the APC-led Federal Government, while praising PDP supporters for their resilience despite orchestrated defections and alleged manipulation during the August 9 by-election.
On insecurity, the Forum lauded Zamfara State’s efforts in reducing attacks but criticised the continued killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States. It urged the federal government to do more to protect lives and property.
