Nigerians have been thrown into darkness as the national grid collapsed again on Saturday afternoon, marking the first time in the year.
According to data obtained from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), as indicating that the collapse occurred at 1:56 p.m.
The portal then followed with an update: “Restoration has begun. Currently generating 302MW as of 02:40 pm.”
This incident follows a pattern of instability, with the grid suffering about 12 consecutive collapses in 2024.
The cause of the latest failure is yet to be disclosed.
Nigerians have taken to social media to express their frustration after the national grid collapsed for the first time in 2025.
Ayoola slammed Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, while calling for a national emergency to be declared.
He wrote on X: “Tinubu’s government is without controversy a monumental failure. Irrespective of the humongous amount spent on electricity by the citizens, with the inconsequential categorization into bands, there is unprecedented national grid collapse. There should be a national emergency declaration.”
Dr. Phinehas wrote on X: “The national Grid is now like the women monthly cycle. It collapses every month. We await February”
Lightemup revealed that due to the surge before the outage, his appliances were damaged.
He wrote on X: “There was a serious surge that damaged electrical appliances just now before the power outage, my deep freezer, refrigerator, phone chargers, laptop chargers, bulbs, and fan got burnt, at this time of the year…what kind of devil is this?” He asked.
