A community in Kebbi State, specifically in Jega Local government wields only one primary school, Kulu Koji Primary School, which is now in deplorable condition.
MonITNG, the civil society organization, has deemed the situation distressing, criticizing the Kebbi State government for the status of this community’s educational center.
In a recent statement issued by the organization, MonITNG says that the school was in a dire and deplorable situation during their visit.
According to MonITNG, the school is the only serving educational institution in the community, but, however, has suffered from horrendous rain pours and storms and has been affected greatly. Yet, the last renovations carried out on the institution was in 2014 by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The group mentioned that the institution now stands with ‘crumbling walls, a blown off roof and no safe space for children to learn.’
The organization criticized the present administration of Governor Nasir Idris for ignoring the plight and the dilapidating condition of this school whilst renovations are ongoing in other parts of Kebbi.
They also faulted the previous governance of Governor Atiku Bagudu during which nothing was done for this community.
“The state government has failed to utilise resources, including UBEC funds meant for strengthening basic education and renovating schools across the state. Sadly, this community has been completely left behind,” the CSO stated.
The group stressed that billions are budgeted yearly for the state’s educational sector, hence, it should reflect in this community as well as the entire state.
