The Kidnappers Are Demanding a Huge Sum – Lady Whose Father Was Abducted in Kogi Cries Out
By Muhammed Akindele
A Nigerian lady identified as Obatuyi Funke, known on X (formerly Twitter) as @funkysguide, has cried out in distress after her father was kidnapped in Kabba, Kogi State. The incident reportedly happened while her father was returning from her convocation ceremony.
Funke, who said she is “truly devastated,” disclosed that she was able to speak briefly with her father, during which he confirmed that he was being tortured and begged the family to act quickly. According to her, the abductors are demanding a huge ransom for his release.
“My dad was kidnapped at Kabba, Kogi on his way back from my convocation. The kidnappers are demanding a huge sum. I managed to speak with him, he’s being tortured and pleaded with us to act fast. Please keep my family in your prayers. Any support is not small,” she wrote.
Her post has immediately attracted massive sympathy from Nigerians, many of whom expressed concern over the rising wave of insecurity in the country.
One user, believed to be from the same local government as her father, wrote:
“I’m so sorry about this… Your brother and I serve in the same local government in Kwara. Sending your family prayers.”
Another person lamented the state of the nation:
“Nigeria is getting worse day by day. Tired of hearing bad news every day.”
Some commenters prayed for the safe return of her father:
“The Lord God will show His mercy and deliver him,”
“My prayers go to you and your family. I pray your father will be safe.”
Others expressed frustration over the frequent attacks on ordinary citizens while politicians move freely with security escorts. One user questioned:
“Why are they not kidnapping the politicians?”
Another expressed the fear many Nigerians now live with:
“May Nigeria not happen to us… So sorry about this.”
Many also criticized the dangerous state of road travel in the country:
“Omo traveling by road in this country is hard.”
Funke has appealed to the public for prayers and any form of support as her family navigates the difficult situation
