Troops Intercept Drug Courier, Seize 108kg of Cannabis in Kogi — Army
By Muhammed Akindele
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade have intercepted a major drug courier and recovered over 108 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa during a routine stop-and-search operation in Kogi State.
The incident occurred on 24 November at the Agbede Response Area, along a route frequently exploited by criminal groups for the movement of illicit substances.
According to a statement issued on Monday by Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, troops stopped a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU, driven by one Johnson Ayo, who was travelling from Ekiti State to Obajana.
The army said the presence of a branded police hat and belt displayed on the vehicle’s dashboard raised suspicions. A thorough search then led to the discovery of 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 108.8 kilograms, concealed inside the car.
Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment was part of a large-scale drug movement believed to support criminal networks and fuel banditry across Kogi and neighbouring states.
Mr Ayo and the seized drugs have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation.
The statement added that the Nigerian Army remains committed to disrupting the logistics of criminal networks, denying them freedom of movement, and supporting national efforts to curb drug trafficking.
