Benue Assembly Suspends Four Lawmakers Over Alleged Plot to Oust Speaker
By Muhammed Akindele
The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday suspended four members accused of plotting to impeach the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh.
The suspended lawmakers are Alfred Aondoaver (Makurdi North), Shimawua Emmanuel (Vandeikya II), Cyril Ikong (Oju II), and Abu Umoru James (Apa).
Majority Leader Saater Tiseer, who moved the motion, alleged that the four held a secret meeting at the Government House to mobilise against the Speaker despite a recent vote of confidence passed in him and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
“On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, the House in the spirit of unity passed a vote of confidence in the House leadership and the Governor of Benue State. Barely three days after, Hon. Alfred Aondoaver and three others went behind to mobilise members to cause chaos in the House,” Tiseer said.
The motion, adopted during plenary, led to the suspension of the four lawmakers for six months.
Meanwhile, the Assembly confirmed four out of eight commissioner-nominees sent by the governor.
