Nigerian music producer and Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has reacted to a resurfaced account of an incident he encountered with police in the United Kingdom during his early career days.
The story re-emerged after his former associate, Bankulli, shared at a recent event that Don Jazzy once fled an accident scene in London, removed his car’s plate number, and abandoned the vehicle to avoid fines.
Bankulli claimed the producer had fallen asleep while driving home from a show, crashed his car, and immediately ran from the scene to avoid hefty charges.
“He left the car, removed the plate number and ran away… You would pay more to carry the car away than to repair it,” Bankulli said, noting that Don Jazzy was only trying to survive at the time.
His comments has gebdersted reactions online, with an X user expressing concern that Don Jazzy could face consequences if he visited the UK again.
“With this reckless talk from Bankulli, I really hope Don Jazzy isn’t planning a trip to London. They can reopen a 20-year-old case,” the user wrote.
Responding on X, Don Jazzy dismissed claims that he ran from the police or evaded the law. He stated that Bankulli’s recollection was not accurate.
According to him, he actually waited for the police to arrive at the accident scene. The officers conducted a breathalyser test, confirmed he was sober, and later impounded the vehicle.
The producer added that he chose not to reclaim the car because the fine for retrieving it was more than the car itself.
“Lol no panic. It’s been so long, so he doesn’t remember the story exactly. I actually waited for the police. They came and gave me a breathalyser to determine if I was drunk. I wasn’t, but the car was impounded. The fine to collect the car back was more than the cheap car, so I left it with them lol,” he wrote.
