The World Health Organisation (WHO) has launched a $1.5 billion Health Emergency Appeal (HEA) for 2025 to support life-saving health interventions worldwide. WHO’s Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, made the call on Thursday in a statement outlining the critical priorities and resources needed to address 42 ongoing health emergencies. A Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Monday nullified the ward, local government, and state congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party conducted in 2024. Justice Stephen Jumbo issued an interlocutory injunction restraining the executives who emerged from these congresses from functioning as officers of the PDP in the state. The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has banned scavengers from operating in the territory. The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Olatunji Disu, announced the ban while briefing journalists after the FCT Security Committee Meeting in Abuja on Monday. Mr Disu said that the scavengers were allowed to operate only on dumpsites located on the outskirts of the city and the suburbs. “All security agencies have been tasked with ensuring that this order is enforced, beginning from January 14,” he said.
